Love Books charity event
The Love Books charity event held at the Red Lion Hotel in Pontefract on 13th February this year managed to raise just over £44 for the NSPCC - an unfortunate amount considering the many weeks of preparation put in and interest generated for the event.
We had displays from new Children's Author Hollie Day (right, picture courtesy of Pontefract and Casteford Express), author of Pig Tales , a series of scary stories for children involving a group of piggy friends and their adventures, also displays from Write Books, a non-profit publisher in based in Ferrybridge, West Yorkshire displaying a wide range of books for popular local authors covering many genres. We also had a fantastic display and community write from the Yorkshire Art Circus based in Castleford. The community write generating a great deal of creative talent from Pontefract displaying on it some fantastic pictures and written contributions telling us what Pontefract meant to them.
Many thanks to all who helped that day, with special thanks to our contributors:-
Tom Devanny from Write Books, the authors of the books on display. As special thanks to Hollie Day for coming along to sign copies of her novel Pig Tales, and also a special thanks to the Yorkshire Art Circus for their display and their fantastic community write.
Also special thanks to those who attended our evening event comprising of a charity Jam Session and a Spooky Ghost Investigation around the Hotel part of the Red Lion helping us also to raise money through collections and ticket sales for the tour with our investigators from the West Yorkshire Paranormal Group and Ghost Night.
With many thanks also to Toby Metcalf for allowing us to hold the Love Books event in the Red Lion Hotel and for helping to make the whole day possible.
