The wierd and wonderful
Quills is not just a writing service but also an artistic service. We can do artwork for such things as new signs and A boards, we can also design posters, flyers, brochures and more.
And of course it doesn’t stop there! As the owner of Quills I also do a great deal of my own artwork. My current project sprung to mind with the the thought of closure. I had just come out of a relationship and was standing in the beer garden staring into space when the idea hit me… there were four garden tables, all round ones with benches, and all painted white. I imagined for a moment what I could do and realised that as a symbol of closure, to create a piece of art which reflected relationships in the modern day, I would have burning candles on a round white table. Each candle would be carefully positioned on top of a poem about that person, or at least an imaginary person because I then realised that the candles would be made from casts of men’s penises.
In my local town, it seems that relationships burn out quickly and there is very much a “try before you buy” attitude with most around here. Have sex first then decide if you want to see this person again. And so I decided to reflect upon the relationships women have with men, especially women on a quest to find love when a lot of men are just on a quest to satisfy their lust.
This piece is called “When the spark is gone.”
I am currently looking for men to participate in this project. I need 12 men of varying shapes and sizes to assist in making the hollow latex casts which will then of course become the casts for the candles. The candles will be white and will be placed on top of the poems and allowed to burn down so that the wax will eventually cover the poem. The poems will begin as the start of a relationship begins and will end as the relationship ends.
It will be on display in the local area, wherein which I shall invite local and national media to come and take a look. Anyone who wishes to see that, and some examples of my photographic work is very welcome. The venue will be confirmed on both the Quills website and on my personal site www.ladyvladislas.com
